We should really be talking about why student loans are a terrible idea. You make $16000 a month and pay most of it to get rid of debt. Awesome that you are prioritizing getting rid of it but imagine had you gotten a scholarship or joined the service to get school paid for. Student Loans are the devil's work.

Once again, misinformation. You make it sound like you lost it all to taxes or someone else too your money. You paid bills. You could have paid and additional 3k but you chose 6k, and your rent was paid for. Omg
Look, you didn’t have to pay an additional $6k per month on student loans. It’s a smart idea, but you were in a great situation of not having to pay rent. In NYC, big law 1st year associates will pay $3000 for rent.
Ohhhhh….you are lucky to even save money, don't complain.. most people are not lucky enough to have a 401 K ! That is 6000 in the bank, you are a lawyer, so you know how to twist your words around.
$5400 a year into a 401k is pretty abysmal considering how much you make 😬 You should be maxing (~20k/year) or close to maxing it out with that salary, especially since deductible from income. I guess it depends on what the interest rates on the student loans 🤔

Shouldn't you have been eligible for the expat exclusion, currently at US$126,000/year? On the remainder you would be taxed somewhere around 15%.
My wife was in law in San Francisco and one of her friends got $1 million a year salary in Los Angeles. This is 1990. He came down to Los Angeles and he started hanging out with studio executives who made hundreds of millions of dollars a year. He said he was out of money in three months.😂😂😂
