Job description: Vice President, Transmission & InterconnectionDepartment: DevelopmentEmployment Type: Full TimeLocation: AustinDescriptionAn exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cubico Sustainable Investments in the USA as Vice President (VP), Transmission & Interconnection.The VP – Transmission & Interconnection will progress connection to the electricity grid of Cubico’s wind, solar and storage projects including, where appropriate, identifying connection options, capacity and risks for early stage projects; progressing connection enquiries with the network service provider (NSP); assisting wind turbine model selection and coordinating with manufacturers’ electrical engineering team; reviewing connection designs and costings; managing connection application studies; leading negotiation with AEMO and the NSP of generator technical performance standards; and oversight of the generator registration and testing processes.This will include the management of third-party consultants that Cubico will use to assist with the various activities such as modelling.This position will serve as part of the Austin-based US leadership team. Our ideal candidate will be based in Austin, TX on a hybrid basis, however more flexibility may be considered.Key Responsibilities
- Structure, execute, and manage contractual arrangements with consultants and subcontractors necessary to support a broad range of transmission planning analyses
- Perform transmission modelling using PROMOD, PSS/E or PowerWorld (or others) and provide feasibility level analysis for development pipeline projects
- Evaluate transmission & interconnection tariffs, costs, timelines, queue, and processes for a variety of markets and provide strategy to the project teams
- Responsibilities include multiple phases of the project development process, including siting, interconnection application, study process management, negotiation of interconnection
- Experience in the entire project lifecycle of High Voltage and Medium Voltage scope including estimating, scheduling, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, start up and operation & maintenance
- Collaborate with EPC firms to ensure reliable and cost-effective electrical design of contracted plants
- Monitoring and understanding of electricity market policy and rules with respect to interconnection and transmission planning
- Manage transmission analysis for the grid to identify the locations of transmission constraints and evaluate the curtailment and congestion forecast and evaluate node-to-hub basis risk for the interconnection points
- Actively participate in relevant market related meetings and obtain information that can help to improve the Project Development’s siting/prospecting strategy
- Analyze certain market transmission protocols to help identifying new areas that can introduce new business opportunities and/or help in improving the strategy
- Lead the US Transmission team including the development, recruitment and retention of personnel.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar engineering background
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a transmission analysis role, preferably in the renewable energy sector
- Working experience in or direct interaction experience with the major regional transmission organizations such as MISO, PJM, SPP, CAISO and ERCOT
- Understanding of electricity market policy and rules with respect to interconnection and transmission planning
- Working knowledge of high voltage EPC systems including High Voltage Substation and Transmission line modifications /upgrades
