Magellan International School (Colegio Internacional Magallanes), a Spanish immersion school in Austin, Texas, has an opening for a Middle Years Program (MYP) Math and Science Teacher (grades 6 to 9). This position is responsible for creating a progressive learning environment where students can demonstrate thoughtful and ethical behavior and ensure that the attributes of the International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profile are at the heart of learning and relationships in the school.Essential FunctionsPlan and teach Math and Science lessons following the IB MYP framework and Magellan-designed curriculum.Use technology and a wide range of creative teaching styles.Differentiate for individual student needs.Contribute regularly to curriculum planning and development, including interdisciplinary units of work.Plan with colleagues to deliver effective team teaching when possible.Participate in parent-teacher conferences and communicate students’ progress towards achieving academic goals.Essential Functions As They Relate To:StudentsPromote high standards and expectations for academic performance and behavior.Serve as a role model for students, dressing professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the education profession.Ensure that the instructional program engages learners in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, questioning the known, problem solving and creativity and utilizing the scientific method.Maintain a safe and creative environment for their students.FacultySupport teachers and co-workers.Attend all staff/ faculty meetings.Meet with the MYP Coordinator to review curriculum plans and activities and evaluate the program’s effectiveness.AdministrationMaintain records on each student’s progress and development.Keep up-to-date records of attendance, curriculum and assessment tasks in Toddle.Monitor students at break times, lunch times, and other times as required.ParentsCommunicate professionally and effectively to parents regarding student progress.Work with Room Parents in planning and participating in activities.Conduct individual parent conferences at the end of each term.Make presentations to parents as needed.Attends parent meetings when required.External CommunityPromote the Magellan International School Mission.Create and maintain connections with relevant community resources.Other DutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice and at the discretion of the School Administration.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Education, Math, Science or a related degree.Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.A minimum of two years’ experience teaching Math and/or Science.Experience integrating information technology with teaching.Knowledge and understanding of curriculum development, program evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, and assessment.Ability to create a stimulating classroom environment.Ability to utilize the local context and environment to enhance learning.Ability to work with parents.Personal Attributes and SkillsDynamic, empathetic communicator.Highly organized and punctual.Child focused – warm, caring, and supportive.Passion for teaching and learning.Flexibility and willingness to work with teams.Desire to be part of a growing school by committing to its vision and mission.Salary and BenefitsA competitive salary based on experience and a benefits package including medical and supplemental insurance, optional 401K, and paid vacation and sick days.Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a classroom environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets. This role requires lifting, bending, standing, and stooping.Position Type and Expected Hours of WorkThis is an Exempt position. “Core” work hours: 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Availability during occasional night and weekend events.TravelSome out-of-area travel may be expected, but is not common.Additional Eligibility QualificationsA criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position, to include fingerprinting at the expense of the applicant, if no record exists for the applicant in the Texas Department of Public Services database. CPR/First Aid will also be required for any employees working with students, fees for which will be paid by Magellan or reimbursed upon completion of required training.Work Authorization/Security ClearanceIf hired, the employee will be required to complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification form, I-9. You will be required to present acceptable and original to prove your identity and authorization to work in the United States. Documents need to be presented no later than the third day of employment.
