Job description: Senior Engineering ManagerOverviewThis role is critical to ensuring we deliver the best product and technologies to our customers, partners, and internal stakeholders. You will oversee a large portion of the SDLC with your direct reports being software engineers & QA, while working in close collaboration with product, design, architecture, and data architecture. This role will report to the CTO and collaborate closely with peers in product, design, and technology leadership.As an engineering manager you are responsible for crisp roadmap execution, health of the technology platform and its budget, and the hiring, growth and retention of engineering talent. Your focus will be mentoring and coaching teams while ensuring alignment with the product org and excellent communication between stakeholders and other functional leaders.Beyond your focus on people and product delivery, you will help transform and modernize a platform and help the company grow and scale as we expand our offerings from consumer marketplace into B2B partner integrations.Qualifications
- You have great technical savvy and intuition and coach your team to make good technical decisions while not allowing perfect to get in the way of good
- You have 10+ years working in a software engineering department ideally with direct experience with cloud migrations and decomposing monolithic applications
- You have 5+ years of experience as a technical leader, ideally including leading people managers
- Extensive Agile experience including scaling development across multiple teams and/or agile transformations
- You have great communication and teamwork skills
- You have an affinity to all aspects of the SDLC – analysis, development, testing, deployment, and monitoring
Responsibilities
- Ensure consistent velocity by removing roadblocks and other distractions that take time and resources from roadmap delivery and platform health
- Develop, inspire, and lead a team who are building innovative solutions
- Mentor software engineers and QAE / SDETs, guiding them to achieve their career goals and positive impact on uShip
- Work with product and agile coaches to define key metrics for delivery, team health and quality
- Hire and develop top talent
- Collaborate with architecture, product, and design to an aligned roadmap ensuring crisp execution and delivery of value
- Ensure all work delivered encompasses our engineering tenets – of Security, Reliability, Scalability, Accessibility, and Performance.
- Ensure transparency between teams and senior management
- Reduce friction and optimize process and communication within and across multiple engineering teams
- Collaborate with other managers and teams to improve the overall uShip engineering experience and provide consistent, ample training and growth opportunities
- Provide direction and ultimate decision on staffing decisions such as team rosters according to the needs of the business
- Collaborate with engineering leadership to create and manage engineering budgets including team rosters, tooling, and vendor services.
- Work with partners, consultants and vendors as necessary
